General Questions

What is Fotona® 4D?

Fotona4D® is a multi-step laser protocol that combines different wavelengths and modes to target both superficial and deeper layers of the skin for lifting and rejuvenation effects.

Are laser treatments medical procedures?

Yes. At Alkimiya, all laser treatments are physician-supervised and performed using medical-grade devices in a clinical setting.

Is laser treatment safe?

Yes. When performed by a trained physician, laser treatments are considered safe and well-established in dermatology and aesthetic medicine. Settings are adjusted based on your skin type, sensitivity, and treatment goals.

How do I know which treatment I need?

Most patients don’t need to decide in advance. During your consultation, Dr. San Mateo evaluates your skin concerns and recommends a personalized treatment plan.

Can treatments be combined?

Yes. Many patients benefit from combining treatments (for example: tightening + resurfacing) for more comprehensive results.

Are laser treatments better than fillers or cosmetic surgery?

They are different, not replacements. Laser treatments improve skin quality and mild laxity naturally. Fillers restore volume, and surgery addresses more advanced structural changes.

Results and Recovery

How soon will I see results?

Some improvements (like brightness or texture) may be visible within days, but most results develop gradually over several weeks as collagen production increases.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the treatment area and concern. Some patients see improvement after one session, while others benefit from a series of 2-4 treatments for optimal results.

Can all skin types be treated?

Many laser treatments can be safely customized for different skin types. However, settings and modality selection may vary depending on pigmentation and sensitivity.

Is there any risk of scarring or damage?

When performed correctly, risk is low. Choosing appropriate settings and following aftercare instructions significantly reduces complications.

Can I get laser treatment if I have sensitive skin?

Yes, but we may choose gentler settings or alternative modalities to ensure safety and comfort.

Before & After Care

Do I need to prepare before treatment?

You may be advised to avoid sun exposure, tanning products, and certain skincare ingredients before treatment. A consultation will include personalized preparation instructions.

What should I expect after treatment?

You may notice temporary redness, sensitivity, or warmth. Skin gradually improves in tone, texture, and firmness over time as collagen rebuilds.

What should I avoid after treatment?

You should avoid sun exposure, tanning, and harsh skincare products immediately after treatment. We will give you specific post-care instructions based on your procedure.

Safety

Does laser treatment hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation as warmth, tingling, or mild snapping. Comfort settings and cooling techniques are used to keep treatment tolerable.

Will anything be applied to my skin to make treatment more comfortable?

Yes. Depending on the treatment, we will use a topical numbing cream.

How is numbing cream used during treatment?

If numbing cream is needed, it is applied before your session and left on for an appropriate amount of time to maximize comfort. It is then gently removed before the laser treatment begins so the skin is clean and ready for the procedure.

Do I need to come with clean skin?

Yes. Please arrive with clean skin and no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or skincare products on the treatment area. Clean skin helps ensure the laser can be delivered safely and effectively.

Should I shave before my laser treatment?

If the treatment area has visible hair or “peach fuzz,” you may be asked to shave it beforehand. This helps the laser interact more evenly with the skin. If needed, your provider can assist with preparation on the day of treatment.

Can I wear moisturizer or skincare products before my appointment?

It is best to avoid applying moisturizer, oils, or active skincare products on the day of treatment. Skin should be free of residue for optimal laser contact.

Why is skin care hydration important before laser treatment?

Well-hydrated skin tends to respond more comfortably to laser treatment. We may also use hydrating gels or soothing masks during the procedure depending on your skin type.
